95334: Catherine Martin

Catherine (1815-1885) was the daughter of Donald Martin and Ann Macleod of 14 Old Melbost Borve.

In 1818 the family moved to 9 Portvoller.

Catherine married Kenneth Macdonald, of 6 Aird, but it is not clear where the couple initially settled or where their first child was born.

In 1842 the family obtained 11 Old South Tolsta, after the previous occupant lost the croft, and the couple went on to have a further two children there.

In 1850 she was widowed and Catherine and her children settled as cottars on 13 Portvoller, which was her brother, Malcolm’s croft.
