John (1883-1973) was a son of James Smith and Margaret Maciver, 10 Branahuie. The family later moved to Stornoway.
In 1902 John and his father emigrated to Canada. His mother Margaret, brother Donald and sisters Christina and Marion emigrated in 1906. The family were Homesteaders in Central Butte, Saskatchewan.
John married Wilhelmina Jane Ridley an immigrant from Northumberland. They settled in Central Butte and they had a family.
