For the purposes of this website, the Uig district is the area extending from Grimersta to Mealasta in the west of Lewis. Lying to the west of Bernera and the adjacent mainland, it is the area for which Comann Eachdraidh Ùig (Uig Historical Society) maintains historical records. The Uig district is part of the parish of Uig, as also are Bernera and the string of coastal settlements on the east side of Loch Roag between Garynahine and Dalbeg.
