92679: John Macleod

John (born 1844) was the son of Angus Macleod and Annie Maciver, of 1 Old South Tolsta.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, the family obtained 36 North Tolsta.

His father sent him to board in Stornoway so he could attend the school there.

In 1870 John’s mother died, and his father went on to married Henrietta Macaskill on the 15th December 1870.

In 1873 John’s father, stepmother and several of his siblings emigrated to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

John emigrated to New Zealand.

John emigrated to Australia, and qualified as a minister.

John took his MD degree in Montreal and became a doctor.

John was a minister in Tiree for three years.

John returned to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

John returned to settle at 77 North Tolsta, with his homesick father. In due course 77 North Tolsta passed to John. Upon his death, John, left 77 North Tolsta to his, widowed, house keeper Christina Morrison.
