91856: John Maciver
John (1864-1939) was the son of Roderick Maciver and Bess Maciver, of 25 North Tolsta.
In 1878 when the new school opened John became a temporary monitor there. His cousin Murdo succeeded him as monitor.
John trained as a ships carpenter and spent his working life at sea.
John married Mary Macleod, of 20 North Tolsta. The couple settled as cottars at 25 North Tolsta. They lived in a thatched cottars house that was opposite the Free Presbyterian church. They had three children: two boys and a girl.
In due course the cottars house passed to their daughter Kate. The house has since been demolished.
