70044: John MacKillop

John MacKillop was born in 1874, the eldest son of Alexander MacKillop and Annabella MacPherson of 5 Ruisgarry (Beasdaire), which he was passed on his father’s death. John became a farm servant, then a fisherman. In 1908 he married Mary MacLeod. Their only child Donald died of epilepsy at the age of just nine years.

John is briefly mentioned in the song Oran Tarbh Ruisgearraidh by Iain Archie MacAskill, published in An Ribheid Chiuil.

Following John’s death from bronchitis in 1931 the croft passed to Duncan MacLeod.
