54221: Roderick Gillies
Roderick Gillies (1822-1902) was a son of Donald Gillies and Christina Macleod, 5 Old Orinsay.
His father died in 1830 and in 1843, when Orinsay was cleared, the family moved to 5 Leurbost.
His mother split the croft giving half to Roderick and half to his sister Ann. Ann’s half became 6 Leurbost.
In Harris, in 1849, he married Rachel Cunningham, 12 Scalpay. Roderick and Rachel settled at 5 Leurbost and they had seven children.
