45837: Alexander Macleod
Alexander, son of Malcolm Macleod and Janet Macdonald, 17 Balallan left in 1902 and spent 4 years in Glasgow and Ireland. He emigrated to Canada in 1906 where he worked as a coal miner and later as a fisherman, settling in Vancouver. Whilst fishing off the Pacific coast, his boat broke down and he was marooned on an uninhabited island for 13 days, his only food being the little shellfish he could find on the shore. He was rescued when a passing ship which had gone off course saw his signals from shore.
Alexander served as a Corporal with the 4th Canadian Pioneers during the First World War and was wounded in action.
