38695: Roderick Mackenzie

Roderick (born 1848) married Christina Fraser in Lochbroom in 1870. They came to Barvas where Roderick was a gamekeeper and stayed there for five years before moving to Carloway for one year. They then relocated to Kinresort before settling at Keeper’s Cottage, Uig Lodge. They had eight children including a son, Hugh who died young, a son Roderick who succeeded him as gamekeeper at Uig Lodge, and another son Rev Col AJ Mackenzie, who wrote an evocative memoir of his childhood.

Roderick’s second wife was Margaret Calder, Piper’s Cottage, Kinlochroag.
