2386: Angus Macleod

Angus (1785-1874)  was press-ganged into the 78th Seaforth Highlanders (probably in 1804, and therefore the 2nd Battalion), fought in the Peninsular War. His exciting story is retold by Angus Macleod.

On his return to Lewis Angus settled at 5 Old Gravir. He married Christina Macleod of Cromore and they settled at 5 Old Gravir. The couple had four daughters and in the 1852 Lotting the family obtained 16 Gravir.

Angus was widowed in 1857 and lived with his daughter, Euphemia at 12 Gravir.

It was believed that he emigrated to Lingwick Canada with his daughter Elizabeth in 1863 but he appears on the 1871 Census. He may have emigrated later.
