Reuben Appleton from Manchester emigrated to South Australia on the Lady Lilford in 1839. There he worked as a farmer, marrying Rachel Morrison, originally from Borve, Berneray, at Port MacDonnell in 1863. Together they were to have eight children. Following Rachel’s death he remarried. His second wife’s name is unknown.
