According to local tradition, the Macraes came from Kintail originally. Donald Macrae’s family was at Brollum, Aultinish and at Steimreway, Southern Park before coming to Habost.
Donald Macrae (1775-1859) was a son of Alexander Macrae and Ann Macrae, Steimreway.
He married Annabella Nicolson, 1 Brolum. Donald and Annabella settled at Aird an Troim, Aline, where they had six of their nine children.
The village was cleared in 1826 and the family were removed to 3 Habost.
Donald died aged 94 and was buried at St Colms Isle.
