Reverend Norman MacLeod, 1812 to 1872, of Campbeltown, was an influential clergyman and author, who became known as Caraid nan Gàidheal. He visited Berneray in 1847, where he preached in the Established Church, passing comment on the minister, Reverend John Bethune.
