38315: Battle of Killiecrankie
On 17 July 1689, Viscount Dundee and two thousand Highlanders in support of the Jacobite cause met Hanoverian forcers of perhaps twice the strength under Hugh Mackay of Scourie, in the narrow pass at Killiecrankie in Perthshire. The Jacobites struck ferociously and, with the element of surprise on their side, inflicted heavy losses on their opponents, but Dundee was killed. Momentum was lost and the Jacobites were defeated at the Battle of Dunkeld on 21 August, and the rebellion was temporarily crushed.
Islanders were among the Jacobite forces, including a Lewis Macleod.
