10414: Falklands War (1982)

The Falklands War was a conflict between Britain and Argentina over the ownership of the Falkland or Malvinas Islands, off the southern tip of Patagonia. Argentina had been expelled from the Falklands by the British in 1833, which in 1982 were still a British colony with a population of about 2000. Argentina invaded on 2 April 1982, sea and land battles ensued and the Argentinian garrison eventually surrendered on 14 June. The military junta leading Argentina, which had prioritised the return of the Malvinas, soon resigned.
