23922: 22 Tolsta Chaolais
22 Tolstadh a Chaolais
John Macleod (b1796) was a tenant on this croft until he emigrated with his family c1852 to Canada. After this, the croft was split between John Young (1830-1876), 22a Tolsta Chaolais and John’s son-in-law Angus Macleod, 22b Tolsta Chaolais. On John’s death in 1877, the croft was further split between his son Angus (b1821) and his daughter, widow Ann Mackay (1827-1901). Widow Ann Mackay gave up the croft to her nephew-in-law, Duncan Mackenzie, Garenin but remained on the croft as a cottar.
The croft still remains in the Mackenzie family.
