19058: 60 Balallan (Old)

This croft was originally located above the road. Malcolm Smith (1785-) came to Balallan from Cleitir after it had been cleared in 1840. The family were evicted in the 1850s and the ground was then used by the estate for various purposes.

When new crofts were added to the west of the village, the original croft 60 was renumbered as 65.

Dugald Macdonald (1823-) from 57 Balallan settled on the new croft until moving to Stornoway in the late 1850s.

John Macaulay (1819-1887) from Crowlista, Uig settled on the croft and has been in the family since that time.
