117891: 25 Gress

25 Griais

25 Gress was a newly lotted croft in 1922 and the first tenant was  Donald Maclean, a Gress Raider.  Like many others they immediately moved to Gress after winning the ballot, but prior to the official lotting. They were temporarily moved, by the Board of Agriculture, to the banks of Gress River in Back and provided with a temporary corrugated dwelling. When they eventually moved to 25 Gress they dismantled this dwelling and rebuilt it on the croft.  It is the only one, of the four temporary houses, that still exists to this day on a Gress croft.
