4 Old South Tolsta was a new croft in 1830. Murdo Campbell, Mary Macleod and their five children were the first occupants. Murdo was widowed but married again; his second wife was Catherine Macdonald. The couple had three children prior to moving to 9 Old South Tolsta in 1843. The couple had their final child at 9 Old South Tolsta and moved to 24 North Tolsta in the 1851 croft relottings.
In 1843 4 Old South Tolsta was split, with 4a being allocated to Donald Macdonald and 4b to John Maciver.
