104084: 23 New Tolsta

23 New Tolsta was originally occupied by Alex Murray, Joan Macdonald and their three children.

Alex built a house on the common-grazing around 1948; the house was refered to as “The Hut” as it was built from Nissan Hut materials. “The Hut” was a warm house, but it was too small for the family as it had only two bedrooms and no croft. The couple had a further three children there, before purchasing 12 North Tolsta for approximately £350.

They moved to 12 North Tolsta on the 20th of March 1959 and “The Hut” was demolished.

Since then a new house has been built that uses the number 23 New Tolsta.
