23356: HMS Dunvegan Castle
In September 1939 the passenger ship Dunvegan Castle of the Union-Castle Mail SS Co Ltd, London was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to an armed merchant cruiser. She served at the South Atlantic Station and in the Freetown Escort Force before being torpedoed by U-46 on 27 August 1940 off Cape Clear and foundering the next day; 27 officers and ratings were lost and some 250 were rescued.
