114248: Altmark

Altmark was a German oil tanker and supply vessel, one of five of a class built between 1937 and 1939. She was commissioned on 14th August 1939.

She is best known for her support of the German battleship the Admiral Graf Spee and her subsequent involvement in the Altmark Incident, during which her transportation of several hundred allied prisoners of war led to a possible violation of international law when she was attacked by British destoyers.

On 6th August 1940 the Altmark was renamed the Uckermark, and resumed her role as an oil tanker. She was destroyed by an accidental explosion on 30th November 1942.
