92109: Donald Smith

Donald (1907-1987) was the son of Murdo Smith and Jessie Graham, of 24b North Tolsta.

Donald inherited 24 North Tolsta from his cousin Mary Smith: when she moved to Stornoway with her family. Donald re-named the croft house, at 24 North Tolsta, Sandy Bay.

Donald married Catherine Morrison, of 14 am Poileagan, Back. The couple settled at Sandy Bay, 24 North Tolsta and had five children: four girls and a boy.

Donald split the croft and the croft house; the croft went to his daughter Janet. Janet and her husband built a house, Schiehallion, on the croft and the couple and their two children moved in. Janet’s husband died, in 1985, shortly after they moved in.

Donald was widowed in 1985, and died two years later.
