72233: Jessie MacKenzie

Jessie MacKenzie, born in 1857, was the daughter of John MacKenzie and Una Martin of Stornoway. Jessie and her sister Barbara were brought up by their cousin Jessie Paterson (née MacGillivray) on 8 Ruisgarry (Baile).

Jessie was working as a domestic servant for her cousin in 1881, and by 1901 was her housekeeper. In January 1905 she married Roderick MacLennan, who was the farm servant on 8 Ruisgarry. A few months later her cousin died and Jessie inherited the croft. Tragically her husband drowned in October 1906, leaving no children.

Jessie died in 1921, leaving the croft to her niece Joan.
