68697: Murdo MacLeod
Murdo MacLeod, born about 1824, was the son of John MacLeod and Margaret MacAskill of old Ruisgarry. By 1851 the family had been removed to the new township of Borgh Mhor in Harris, where Murdo was employed as a farm labourer. He married Marion MacKay from 4 Obbe in 1849 and the couple lived for a time with his family in Borgh Mhor, before returning as cottars on his brother’s croft at 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). Murdo and Marion had eight children together before Marion died in childbed following the birth of their youngest child.
Murdo remarried a few months later – to Ann Munro of 3 Ruisgarry. They had six children together before she too died in childbed in 1882.
