68164: Sir Norman MacLeod

The following information is from Berneray – Historical Guide and Trail:

Sir Norman MacLeod was born in 1614 and lived at The Gunnery near to the present hostel. MacLeod was a respected scholar and fought at the battle of Worcester in 1651. The King’s army was defeated, and the MacLeod regiment was almost wiped out; Norman of Berneray was captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London. He escaped to serve Charles II on dangerous missions abroad, was knighted in 1660, and died in Berneray in 1705.
