53290: Malcolm Macinnes

Malcolm (1893-1919) was a son of Murdoch Macinnes and Mary Macritchie, 2 Lemreway.

On February 21, 1916 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve Service Number A8896. His record indicated that he was 5ft 4½ in tall with grey eyes and a pale complexion. Malcolm was Mobilised on March 5, 1916 and served in  the Royal Navy  in the First World War. He served aboard HMS Dublin for two years including the Battle of Jutland.  

Malcolm lost his life in the Iolaire Disaster of 1st January 1919, aged 26. His name is commemorated  on a family gravestone in Gravir Cemetery, in  Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918, the Pairc War Memorial, the Chatham Naval Memorial, the Lewis War Memorial, Stornoway, the Iolaire Memorial at Holm and the Iolaire Centenary Memorial in Stornoway.
