Roderick Nicolson (1899-1987) 24 Ranish began his teaching career as headmaster of a primary school in Tiree in 1913. He moved to Stockinish Primary School in Harris in 1916. In 1921, he moved as headmaster to Laggan in Badenoch and then to Struay. His final move was to Petty East School where he taught for twenty years. He married Catherine Isabella Macleod, 21b Balallan and on his retirement in 1950, they settled in Balallan, eventually at 9 Parkview Terrace.
