36285: John Mackenzie

John, Eighth of Ballone (born 1810) was the son of John Mackenzie, Seventh of Ballone and Barbara Maciver, of South Beach Street, Stornoway.

John married Mary Macphee of Greenock; the couple had two daughers and a son, all born in Greenock. Both John and Mary died at a young age; their three children were subsequently brought up by John’s sister Margaret Mackenzie and Margaret’s husband Alexander Macleod, at Valtos Farm, Lochs.

Because of three of John and Mary’s children died young, John’s title passed to the only son of his uncle Hector, John Tolmie Mackenzie, who became the Ninth of Ballone.
