36179: Sarah Anderson
Sarah Anderson, child of George Anderson and Catherine Cameron, was married to Malcolm Mackenzie from 1 Aird Uig. They married when both were living in Leith in 1911 and later lived in Glasgow. Malcolm was killed at the Somme in 1917, leaving two sons, George and Alexander. When she received her husband’s effects, there was still blood on his paybook.
After his death, Sarah emigrated to Nukarni in Western Australia with the two boys under a scheme for war widows. She worked as a housekeeper for a doctor and eventually married him. Her husband’s nephew Calum Kenny (son of Catherine) stayed with her when he first emigrated.
