Mary (1826-1917) was the youngest daughter of Donald Macdonald and his second wife Ann Maclennan; she was born on Little Bernera.
Mary was married in 1848 to William CharlesThurnell; they settled in London where they had eleven children. Those that survived infancy were:

Catherine Sarah (born December 1852)
Mary Isabella (born 1855)
William John (born 1857)
Donald Charles (born 1859)
Cornelius George (born 1861)
Ann Margaret (born 1863)
Martha Grace (born1865)
Albert Duncan (born 1868).
Family records say that Mary was married in Stornoway in 1845 before she left for London.
Mary was the author of The ancestors and descendants of Mary Thurnell (née Macdonald) 1826-1817.
