Catherine, known as Kitty, was born in 1854, the daughter of John Paterson and Christina Munro of Taigh a’ Chiobair, Borve. At Portree in 1878 Catherine married Angus MacKinnon of Mandally. Together they were to have eight children, living at 16 Polnonachan: Ewen, Christina, Donald, Mary, Margaret, John, Donald and Christina. Catherine worked as a dairymaid.
