Donald Paterson, born 1801, was the son of Alexander Paterson of Borve. The site of their home was later known as Tobhta Alasdair 'ic Thormoid.
Donald and his brother Norman emigrated to Grand River, Cape Breton in 1843. There Donald married Catherine Shaw, who had also emigrated from Borve. Together they were to have three children before Donald’s death from appendicitis in 1846.
