John MacPhail, probably from North Uist, married Mary MacLennan, with whom he had at least seven children. His widow Mary and son Donald were living in Ruisgarry by 1818.

The names of John’s and Mary’s two daughters are unknown; one married a Morrison and the other a Lamond.
