Helen MacAskill

Helen, born 1827, was the daughter of ferryman Kenneth MacAskill and Marion MacLean of Borve. She married carpenter Angus MacMillan, also of Borve. In 1851 they were living with her brother Angus and sister Catherine.

About 1854, with the clearance of Borve crofts for Borve Farm, the two couples moved to 9 Cluer, as did her husband’s family.

Note: Known as Eilidh in her native Gaelic, she appears as Ellen, Helen and Eliza in different censuses.
