110224: Angus Maciver

Angus (1813-1897) was the son of Murdo Maciver and Christina Beaton. It is not certain where the family were living at the time of his birth.

By 1820, Angus’s father is listed, by both name and nickname, as a subtenant of Old South Tolsta Tack.

In 1830, during the croft lottings, the family obtained 25 Old South Tolsta.

Angus married Margaret Murray, of 7 Old North Tolsta, and the couple settled as cottars at 25 Old South Tolsta. They had one child there, prior to emigrating to the Eastern Townships of Quebec in 1840. They had a further six children together in Quebec.

Angus was widowed in 1855.

Angus’s second marriage was to Henrietta Campbell, who was originally from South Dell; the couple had four children.

In total Angus had eleven children: eight boys and three girls.
