105768: Catherine Maclean

Catherine (1901-1992) was the daughter of Murdo Maclean and Marion Murray, 14 North Shawbost and relocated with her family to Church Street, Stornoway in 1912. She came as sole teacher to Mangersta School in 1922. She lodged at first with the Morrison family at 12 Mangersta as the schoolhouse was too lonely and moved into the schoolhouse when the Nurse’s Cottage was built. She was the sole teacher at Mangersta School until she left to get married in 1940, to Alexander Donald Finlayson, 1 Ardroil, where they lived. They had one daughter.

She was appointed as Head Teacher of Crowlista School in 1947 and continued there until she retired in 1969.
