Norman, born 1945, was the eldest child of John MacAskill and Isabella MacQuarrie of 23 Borve, and later 13 Ruisgarry (Sunhill).

Norman was passed 22 Borve from Alexander MacMillan, and his father’s crofts in 2006. He also owned 'house 16' Quay for a while. Norman lived at 1 Cùl na Beinne for a few years before he passed away in February 2012.

He was a generous contributor to the School of Scottish Studies sound archive. Norman's recordings, including some of his own compositions, are available on the Tobar an Dualchais website. A convenient way to access them is through his biography page.
