Bessie was born in 1885, the daughter of shopkeeper & merchant Angus Paterson and his wife Catherine MacCuish of Geo Dhubh and later 20/21 Borve. She worked as a house servant and later a nurse, marrying Warrant Officer Albert Edward Burns. She passed away of tuberculosis aged 26 years.
