Donald was born in 1926, the son of Norman MacLean of 8 Borve and Christy Mary MacDonald of Ardmaree. He started attending Berneray School in 1932.
He was passed the house at Ardmaree following his mother’s death, and 8 Borve following his father’s death. Donald and his wife had a son.
Donald's croft was, following his death, passed to his cousin.
