Mary was born in 1908, the eldest child of Norman MacLeod and Marion MacLeod of 5 Borve. She attended Berneray School between 1915 and 1923. She worked as a weaver for a while following her mother’s death in 1952.
Mary married James Macdonald of 145 Howmore, South Uist where they made their home with their daughter. Following her husband’s death she moved to back to Berneray, living at Grianan in Backhill.
