Alexander was a son of John Mackay and Margaret Smith, 16a Achmore. Alexander was a sailor.  He married Chirsty Mary Macdonald, 11 Geshader and they settled at 37 Achmore. Alexander later obtained the croft at 22 Achmore. They had a son and two daughters.
