10242: Kinlochleven

Kinlochleven is a village that grew up at the beginning of the 20th century to support the operation of an aluminium smelter and the associated Blackwater Dam, power station and harbour. It lies at the head of Loch Leven in the Lochaber area, straddling the border between the two historical counties of Argyllshire and Inverness-shire. It incorporates two previously existing small hamlets, one on each side of this border: Kinlochmore in Inverness-shire and Kinlochbeag in Argyllshire.
