31563: LSFH 32.2 Sideval – BLACKHOUSE

Summary:

HOUSE (Post Medieval – 1540 AD to 1900 AD)
BLACK HOUSE (Post Medieval – 1540 AD to 1900 AD)
Pre-crofting blackhouse

Location:

NB 27990 17035

Full description:

"Situated at the eastern foot of Sideval, where the slopes meet the boggy ground between the hill and the Balallen to Eisgean road, the fragmentary remains of this blackhouse are orientated from north to south and measure 8 x 3 metres. Surviving as only the basal course of stones at ground level, the remains are too denuded to allow for the identification of an entrance or any internal features such as partitions or aumbreys. This house is likely to relate to the cultivation located to the south, overlooking the shores of Loch Seaforth Head, though it is quite remote from the rest of that settlement group (32)."
