The first tenant of 3 Laxay was John Macdonald (1819-1896) who was married to Christina Macleod, 2 Laxay. It is not known where John came from.

John's son Malcolm became the tenant of the croft and offered the tenancy to Roderick Maciver, 12 Laxay. Roderick had been assigned 7 Keose Glebe in 1934 but chose to settle at 3 Laxay.
