Macdonald Printers and Publishers was founded in 1957 by Callum Macdonald. Due to the successful development of work for the University of Edinburgh and Scottish Widows the company outgrew its Edinburgh city centre location and in 1969 moved to Loanhead, Midlothian where it remained until its closure in July 2000. By then the company had grown to employ 70 people. In 1989-90 the company had merged with Lindsay's to form Macdonald Lindsay Pinder plc.
