The SS Gwent was a Cargo Steamship built by Craig Taylor & Co Ltd, Stockton on Tees in 1915 for H & D Radcliffe, London. She was sold to Evan Thomas Radcliffe & Co Ltd, Cardiff and renamed SS Clarissa Radcliffe.
On March 18, 1943 west of Boston the SS Clarissa Radcliffe was torpedoed and sunk with the loss of 53 lives.
