The SS Glofield was a Cargo Steamship built by Craig Taylor & Co, Stockton on Tees in 1929 for Globe Shipping, Cardiff. She was sold in 1932 to Charles Cravos & Co, Cardiff and renamed SS Ampleforth.
In Convoy, on August 19, 1940 the SS Ampleforth was torpedoed and sunk west of the Hebrides with the loss of nine lives.
