106804: Angus MacAskill
Angus (c1818-1894) was the eldest child of Norman MacAskill and Christina Campbell of Sheabie, Berneray. Sometime after 1826 the family moved to Quidinish before emigrating to Cape Breton about 1831. They made their home in Englishtown, St Ann’s Bay. Angus married Christina MacLeod, with whom he was to have five children, living at Munro’s Point, St Ann’s Bay.
Angus was the older brother of Angus Mòr MacAskill, who became known as the strongest man in the world.
Note: although Angus’s gravestone states that he emigrated from Harris in 1828, this does not tie in with the birthdates of his younger siblings. An emigration date of 1831 is more probable.
