Kenneth was born in 1875, the son of Duncan MacAskill and Effie MacLeod of 11/12 Ruisgarry (Quay). The family later moved to 7 Borve, which his father obtained in 1900. By 1911 Kenneth was working from home as a hand loom weaver.

During the Great War, Kenneth served as a deckhand in the trawler section of the Royal Naval Reserves, marrying Ann MacLeod of 15 Ruisgarry (Trealigarry) in 1917. Together they were to have two sons.

The family moved to Cheesebay before returning to Berneray. Kenneth was passed 19 Borve by James MacCuish.

Following Kenneth’s death the croft was passed to his nephew Alexander MacAskill.
